Well we’ve been back at school for a week and I feel like it is definitely time to start thinking about holidays again!! As the weather draws in and the days get shorter an autumn break seems like a great idea!!
With the great summer we have had maybe sun is not the top of your list when thinking about something to do with the kids at half term, but how about a city break?
We have always tried to use the autumn half term to go and explore different countries and cultures. My mother used to drag us around art galleries hoping that we would all become erudite adults so we have not exactly force fed this down our kids, however we have taken the view that having your fried eggs served with paprika for breakfast in Budapest is also a cultural experience!
We would try and choose a European capital that we felt we could do justice to in about 3 days. Enough to get a flavour and see the main sites but not too long that the thought of another historic or cultural visit had them refusing to leave the hotel! When they were little scooters were great and I like to think that they have scooted around some of the best capital cities in Europe.
So if you think this seems like a good idea, here are some ideas below, courtesy of www.thebesttimetovisit.com
Our own favourites? Barcelona – you can get the best of a bustling city and the option of a few hours on the beach, Rome – for the sheer history and the ease of getting around, but others in the family would say that you cannot beat the Railway museum in York!
So if it is dry weather that you looking for Madrid might be higher on your list than Belfast, and if is a last few rays of sunshine you might head to Cardiff rather than Olso.
If you are thinking of hopping off to Europe you might need to book a flight quite soon but at least the Euro is a little bit better value to buy than it was a few weeks ago. The Sunday Times travel section noted that there are some real bargains to be had with Ryanair at the moment.
Happy sightseeing and don’t forget to get your luggage with us at KidsTravel2!!
