7 Things You Probably Don’t Know About Me
I have been tagged in a meme by Clare who blogs at Seasider in the City. I have never been tagged before so deep breath and here goes…
1. I always regretted not taking Spanish at university. So, when I finished uni I went and taught English in Spain for almost 3 years to learn the language. Si, si. I LOVE Spain & the Spanish way of life
2. My husband always takes the mickey out of me for my ‘mottos’ but this IS my life motto – ‘be true to yourself’ or to quote the full, ‘proper’ version from Hamlet
‘This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.’
This has seen me through several tricky decisions in my life. The moment I have stopped and asked myself this question ‘but are you being true to yourself?’ the decision becomes so much easier. Implementing it may be difficult but I always know it’s the right decision to make!
3. I have drunk tea from a liquid detergent bottle. Let me explain. I spent a year living in the french alps during my student years. The lady of the lovely family I lodged with used to kindly put a hot water bottle in my bed at night as it was f-f-freezing. This was actually an oversized laundry softner bottle. I came down one morning after my shower to find her making me a cup of tea by heating up the water that had been sloshing around in my hot water bottle all night. I then understood why my morning cup of tea never quite hit the spot. Bleurgh!
4. If malapropism could be deemed a medical condition then I sometimes think I may suffer from it.
5. My first ever and only real sailing trip was a night crossing to Holland on a small boat with 3 other crew. A beautiful baptism of fire – sleeping in shifts, keeping the boat on course by lining the mast up with the stars, and actually catching a mackerel for breakfast.
6. I lived in Cyprus as a child during the early 1970′s and can remember our school being closed and used as an army base. Seemed exciting at the time but looking back I can now realise what a worrying time it was. We were eventually evacuated.
7. My favourite food is pancakes with lemon and sugar. Drool
And now it seems it’s over to me to tag a few people – I have decided to pick a few of my twitter followers so I can also get to know them a bit better and read 7 interesting things about them
. Hope you have time to take up the challenge!
